Laura Kayata

Laura Kayata is an award-winning graphic designer and illustrator who has come full-circle back to her fine art roots. The daughter of a now-retired Army Colonel, she spent her formative years in Europe, living in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. She grew up visiting art museums throughout Europe, studying painting and creating art in her home studio, working mostly in oils, pastels and charcoal.

A woman of many careers, Laura started her adult life as a model with the prestigious Manhattan-based Eileen Ford Agency. For 10 years, she traveled the world, working as a team with the world's top advertising agencies, cosmetic companies, clothing designers, magazines, layout artists and photographers to create exciting  visuals for ad campaigns or editorial features. After a brief stint in the garment industry, she went on to serve as Marketing Manager for the City of McKinney’s Tourism Services, the Director of Marketing and Communications for the McKinney Chamber of Commerce (the fastest-growing city in the U.S.!) and as Vice-President of Marketing for a DFW-based cosmetics firm. She then was named Art Director of HealingLifestyles.com. In these positions, she managed everything from advertising to graphic design, photo editing, layouts, branding, marketing communications, public policy and public relations.

In 2007, she hung out her own shingle and opened metro-graffix, through which her commercial graphic design work has been seen in national and regional magazines and on billboards, signage and advertising throughout the world. Laura holds a Liberal Arts degree (concentration in Philosophy Honors) from George Washington University and lives in Texas in a Historic Landmark home with her husband and their beloved dog and cats.

She is also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. After a life-changing experience in early 2013, Laura knew it was time to get back to her roots and her art studio. Fueled with new inspiration and a lifetime of diverse perspectives, her newest works include small and large formats of acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Her dramatic abstracts are inspired by natural, organic forms, light color and tone.
