ABOUT TUAN NGUYEN: Tuan's career began in Saigon, South Vietnam where Tuan was born into a family of wealth, privilege and lineage. His father was a well known and respected architect and turned sculptor and mentor of Tuan. They sculpted together which awarded Tuan the skills to become one of the most renowned and sought after sculptors in the world. His story begun on April 30th, 1975 with the fall of Saigon into a Communist rule. During the oppression of the Communist regime and near-fatal escape attempt, Tuan ended up in a force labor camp that would have broken a lesser man, but instead, Tuan created opportunity by using the red clay from the floor of his cell to sculpt the likeness of fellow prisoners. The warden was so impressed and with the help of his family, Tuan was released, escaping through Cambodia to Thailand and then transferred to Philippines. He learned English there and created sculptures to honor escapees before gaining sponsorship to the United States where his family found freedom in 1988. His story and success after that became the likes of a movie script with multiple sequels advancing and catapulting him into one of the most prolific sculptors in America with earned prestigious awards and demand for his work worldwide.
